But they want your name address and e-mail address. Wonder why.

Does it matter - you don't have to give a valid street address.

You do have to give a valid e-mail address in order to get the
download link, but that's what hotmail addresses are for - 99% spam,
and the occasional required e-mail. Mailwasher takes care of all
that.

No point being paranoid for no good reason.

Wow, what a great facility mailinator is.

Didn't know about it. Many thanks.

Goodbye Hotmail. Guess you just have to ensure you use an absolutely
unique identity.

No, you don't need to invent a unique identity.

If you choose the same user name as somebody else you will simply find two
messages there, one for you, one for the other guy.

Both messages will be deleted after a few hours.

Great idea. Very useful.

Yes, but for whatever reason, you may want to keep your mails private
(as may the other bloke)!!

Shouldn't be hard to come up with a unique identity, the hard part
will be remembering it.

just call me as "C34h27u@8k(7#"

And that is good, means identities will be recyclable

Too true

You should read the text on the mailinator.com web site.
Don't use this for private messages, they say, and they explain how it
works.

Anybody can write a script and check lots of possible user names, for
example.

Yeah, but how do you remember such a name?
If you use this as it is supposed to be used, for giving an email address
to some web site which wants it to send you a download link, a registering
number, or so, there is no need for privacy.
If you are overly concerned about privacy, don't use this system.
And that is good, means identities will be recyclable

Identities are created from the emails they receive, so identities are more
like "simultaneously valid" than "recyclable".

The best with this idea is that you do not need to set up any account, just
remember the domain mailinator.com.
When you need a temporary address, just invent a username, give the address
(e-mail address removed) to the web site, and go to mailinator.com and put
that username in the search field to see the reply.

Try Nator http://nator.filenabber.com (it's FREEWARE) - it can create
and remember unique mailinator IDs for you and it can forward any mail
you receive at the mailinator address to your home email account to
check with your regular email client.

By using a sufficiently random/unique account name, you effectively
password protect the email. Try Nator

Or use Nator to create a new random username - it'll even copy the
username to the clipboard for you. Paste it into the web form. Then hit
Go on Nator and it will monitor the mailinator account for mail and when
it arrives it will send it to your home email account to be checked by
your email client. This makes it easy to archive the email in case you
need the registration code or other info in the mail

Also consider SpamGourmet - http://www.spamgourmet.com/ - similar idea but
more private. You do need to create an account, but thereafter you can
create on-the-spot an infinite number of temporary/throwaway email
addresses, without visiting the site to create them first.

More on topic, another site with some similar ideas is SpamMotel.com,
which provides a free PC app that makes it a bit easier to create and use
these disposable email addresses.

Goodbye Hotmail. Guess you just have to ensure you use an absolutely

Hotmail keeps things for a reasonable time/capacity, and files but
doesn't discard spam.

Mailinator keeps things for a VERY short time, and will discardsome
spam anyway (and maybe wanted messages too).

Never use Mailinator for anything you'd be worried about losing or
having revealed, or anything you might want to get followups from.

Another possibility is SpamGourmet
http://www.spamgourmet.com/

Even if you only expect ONE message, it may be adviseable to grant 2
or 3, in case the first one is just a confirmation.
