GPU Best buy?

I currently own gainward GF 8600 GTS 512MB.
Although it's the fastest GPU from the 8600 series, I find it still kind
of slow for most new games (not to mention crysis and the upcoming
farcry 2). I also don't need DX10 as i'm not switching to the bloatware
OS called vista any time soon. So I'm getting rid of it and buying...
what?
I was thinking 8800 gts 320MB, but are there any better options out
there? Maybe ATI would be better? I can't affort the top of the line
models, but i'm sure there are some good cards in the medium-upper
"class". Just want to be 100% sure i'm getting the best there is for the
money this time around. 8800GTS 320MB is about as expensive as i can go.
I've checked tom's hardware but there are a lot of GPU's missing there so..
Anyway, any help is apreciated.

The 8800 GT 512GB is probably the best overall bang for the buck right now.
It should serve you well in those games.

I got the Gainward GF 8800 GT 512MB factory OC-ed to 650/1900.
Got it up to 700/2000 and it's working flawlessly. top temp at 70C after
about 1 hour of strain. Finally... Crysis!
