GPS resources and waypoints?

Is there any resource which delivers GPS waypoints? For example, I would
like to use a device with an Internet connection (e.g., PDA) to be able
to ask, say, for a waypoint for the village of Salem in Wales.

Maybe this has gone out of fashion with the advent of GPS receivers with
map display?
