got no sound card

I've changed my windows xp from windows98 just 2 days ago
and i find out there is no sound card in it with ER
ox80040256 RemodyID ox00000000, indeed I have tried to
download a free sound card, but got no luck, pls tell me
what to do.thank you!!

You cannot download a free soundcard, that's impossible.

What you can do is download updated drivers for your
current soundcard to be compatible with WindowsXP, which
you must do for it to work properly. Go to the
manufacturers website to download drivers. You may have
to open your PC case to get the brandname.
