has anyone had this problem.

If I try to go to google.com it takes me to some cPanel
site. It then wants me to enter a password to get to
google.

I try ask.com and that doesn't work either. It takes me to
the same cPanel page.

yahoo.com works but I cannot do any searching. It says the
URL is not available.

Any ideas as to what can be causing this all of a sudden.
It's only been about 3 or 4 days.

you guys should read the other 50 some odd post about this
problem. Nobody has told a real way to fix the problem.

ltalbot32,
Sounds like "TrojanQhost" ........ however your AV should have detected
this!
Also your Firewall should have alerted you this Trojan was connecting!

Trojan Qhosts hijacks the HOSTS file, however unlike normal redirectors,
this one hides the HOSTS file in the "Windows\Help" folder.

See: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Download: either "RenHelpHostsXP.bat" or RenHelpHostsME.bat"
Follow up with the link provided instructions .......

The answers are here, they're just buried in the gazillion posts asking the
same question.

I can't promise it will work for you, but I fixed it by going to this site
and following the instructions:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers4.htm#search_engine

Basically, you have to find any "hosts" files - this is above and beyond
hosts.sam and lmhosts. Open them with notepad. If they have a long list of
search engines, delete them - these are the culprit files.

This is the only thing that worked for me. My antivirus program and Spybot
did not detect any trojans or fix the problem. It is possible that there is
more than one cause for this, so your individual solution will obviously
depend on that.

Ok, do a search on your harddrive, including HIDDEN FILES for Host*
You will find one in your windows\Help folder.
DELETE IT.

it contains hundreds of web sites, redirecting to an ip address of
207.44.194.56

Like I said, not a fix, but a short term work around. I am still
trying to find out why my clients PC got this in the first place
