Google / Searches

I rarely use Internet Explorer; I use Firefox. For both browsers, I
use Google as my homepage.

I just went to Internet Explorer "History" and discovered a multitude
of "My Computer" icons and listed thereunder actual files that have
been accessed when I do Searches.

I don't understand this. It seems to mean that Google is able to look
into all of my files in which I Search for key words -- something I do
continuously every day.

These Searches aare not only ones that I do from Start/Search; they
include Searches that I do from inside WordPerfect.

Is there a setting somewhere that gives Google this permission?

In Firefox, none of these Searches appear in History.

Please explain what is happening here and if the privacy of my files
is being breached.

Anxious.

Do you have the google toolbar installed in internet Explorer ?

Because that is a feature of the google toolbar, the feature can be turned
off or if you do not need the toolbar then uninstall it.

Let me know if that helps ?

I don't think that this is related to Google.

Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer are very closely tide together.
Recent searches and/or recently accessed files could also show up in Internet
Explorer History.

I did have the google toolbar installed, and I've removed it. It said
I had last used it 7/05. I don't even know what it's used for. Why
would I need it?

I just did a Search in WordPerfect, and checking my IE History, I
don't see that Search listed, so maybe the problem is gone.

Thanks. : )

My problem is that I don't have a clear idea of how or whether my
files can be accessed (seen or used) by a third party, in this case
Google or IE or Windows.

I would uninstall IE and just use Firefox, but the trouble is, there
are a few IE features that I use occasionally, and I can't seem to get
media files to consistently work in Firefox.

It is more likely to be the Google toolbar, now you have uninstalled it you
should not have any further problems, don't worry no one can view your files.

Explorer would not list Word Perfect searches, I think the feature in Google
toolbar is similar to the one in Google Desktop, see the link below for more
information.
