i have xp home and ie and firefox browsers.
the same problem now exists on my desk top machine as well as my wifi laptop.
do you think it is a windows update?
any help or ideas appreciated.

Here are a couple of things to try:

- Look in the hosts file (no extension, just hosts) for any reference to
Google, and remove that line.

- Click Start, Run, type:

IPConfig /FlushDNS [Press Enter key]

Beside the Joe advice, try to Turn the Router/Modem OFF, PC and Laptop OFF
for a Minute or so, then Power On the Router,PC and Laptop.
Check you didn't block the Google Cookies under Privacy >> Sites.
