good news...I don't think i've fried anything ...yet...

Howdy folks,

(can you tell I'm less tense)
I'm back to square one, and thats a hell of an improvement.
First I still need to know the danger of not using the thermal (tape/grease)
on the die for the time being while I just try to get a POST

second, I'm back to getting the fans spinning and the VCC led lighting up
what did I do? Well thanks to a helpful post I installed my new cheap-o
psu, (did I mention it has a 4 inch fan, and iso 9001 components, and is not
tested by UL or anyone, is very quiet though)
The 5V Led was noticably brighter, and the board powered up

now, back to square one
still no agp video
does anyone know the voltage on a ATI RADEON 7000 dual head? 64mb?
my mobo only takes 1.5v and .8v

but.. the video wouldnt come on before the cpu test would it? So if nothing
is happening that could be a sign of a sick cpu? When it arrived I noticed
what could possibly be melted areas around the die. If it was really fried
how would I know? It was a Used unit. As I mentioned before I did cosmeticly
chip the edge of the surface of the Die, and do not know if I am in trouble
there.

Also at the time of writing, am testing, am aware it could still be a simple
problem right?

wanna hear a joke? I used to work in the tech center at staples, let that be
a warning to you all!

to make matters worse I've actually worked on computers before, and I did
just tear down a 486 I pretty much knew what I was doing

apparently either the cpu or the mobo or both were doa,
in my frustration at the non working system I began to second guess myelf

plus the last time I did a system build we didn't use thermal paste thats a
new one to me

UPDATE
mentioned above, its either the mobo or the cpu
and its the same problem I had in the beginning
so I am going to the ABIT website soon, and then to contact the vendors, and
arrange an exchange

however I would liek to narrow it down to one or the other and save time
the mobo has power to fans
the system never makes it to beep or even to video I am thinking the cpu was
dead when I got it

That sounds like a troll.

Not if they see your posts here on Usenet.
