Going from AD to NT4 Domain?

Ok, this is kind of crazy, but would it be possible to
take a mixed mode Windows 2000 AD network back to NT 4 by
removing all of the DC's except the PDC emulator and then
just powering that one off and promoting one of the BDC's.

Yes. As long as you have enough supporting infrastructure for the servers
and clients to operate normally - e.g. WINS and DHCP.
