PLEASE WRITE ME AN EMAIL IF YOU CAN HELP ME:

I was transferring a large video file over my home
network, and the recipient computer crashed while
receiving it. Now, the file is ostensibly there, but
plays imperfectly in windows media... If I try to delete
it, rename it, or anything like that, it says its in use
by another application, and nothing else is running!!! I
have tried everything, including disconnecting from the
network and THEN trying to delete it.... I can't even
right click on the file to get properties, it jams up. I
know it isn't a virus. ANY IDEAS, I NEED TO BE ABLE TO
GET PAST THIS.

thanks so much!!!!

A quick Registry fix will unlock your AVIs so you can move or delete them.

Click on Start | Run; now type Regedit and click on OK.
Browse to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\System FileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler
and delete the Default key contained in this folder.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.

.
Are all of the file attributes off ? if you cant do it in
windows, then good old DOS is the way to sort this out.

I had a similar problem with some of my favourite MP3's, they would not
play, I tried everything with no success... tried changing names, format,
changing from folder, deleting, and nothing was allowed..... finally the
solution was to delete them from the Multimedia Library in Windows Media and
to add them again.
Maybe this will help...

Sorry, I'm very busy right now, with all the wars and such. You're on your own

God
I kind of thought personally that all caps and sounding as though he had
just been shot was a bit over the top.
