gobbledegook in office files

My partner has a seperate log-on, all her docs have changed to gobbledegook.

None of my docs are affected. What has happened & how can I correct it?

Hi Maincat.
No encryption or passwords on her docs. She opened an Excel spreadsheet -
total gobbledegook. Had a BakUp copy on flash drive, loaded it and overwrote
the crap, made changes & saved - 24 hrs later still functioning fine. All
herdocs affected inc. photographs.
