Hi There!
One of my machines has started to go very slow on all commands.
The machine is fairly new and runs XP SP3.
On checking the event log I get the following:
Applications, Error on Userenv and Warning on Microsoft Fax.
System, Error on DOCM and service control manager and warning on avgntflt.
The machine will eventually start to perform again after it's done a min or
two of thinking but it will happen again.
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance.

You probably need to turn MSFax off in Services .

Hi Jim,

Thanks for that help and at least the machine has stopped crashing.

I'm still getting 3 regular errors which I think are causing problems:

1. Application Error. Userenv.

Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that
you are connected to the network, or that your network is functioning
correctly. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

2. System Error. Disk.

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.

3. System Error. DCOM.

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled
or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to
start the service usnjsvc with arguments "" in order to run the server:

Can you help with these please?

Cheers

As a first troubleshooting step, test the hard drive with a diagnostic
utility downloaded from the drive mftr.'s website. You will create a
bootable CD with the file you download. You will need third-party burning
software to do this such as Roxio, Nero, or the free CDBurnerXP Pro. Burn
as an image, not as data.

Boot with the CD you made and do a thorough test of the drive. If it fails
any physical tests, replace it.
