GMAIL CORRUPTED BY STRANGE CRYLLIC LANGUAGE

B

bigron2006

I run my PC on XP Pro SP2 and use the email address
(e-mail address removed) as an alternate email address to cut down on
spam, etc.in my real life email
Recently it has somehow become corrupted and displays everything in a
strange, Cyrillic type language (except the email messages, which are
in English)
I tried reinstalling Gmail to no avail, and I cannot find a language
selector. I have also checked my settings in Regional Languages
(Control Panel)
Your help would be much appreciated.

I can't think why you would get spam to this e-mail address.

Reinstall GMail ? - Do you access it (Google Mail) with the standard
web interface ( http://gmail.com ) or as a profile with a mail client such
as Outlook Express ?

Either way, I'd use the web interface and once logged in, check the
"Settings" option located at the upper Right of the main page.

Why? Because whenever I register anything over the Internet I quote
my Gmail address. That way scrotes who harvest email addresses for
subsequent spam waste their time sending it to my gmail address and
not my real email address. It's over 90% effective, so - that's why!
And yes, my gmail account is often the target of spam.

The standard Web interface - no matter what I do it still displays
this strange Cyrillic (or maybe Greek?) language. It's the only
program affected, so I am at a loss to work it out.

Perhaps Gmail accidentally switched languages. Try going to Settings
(or where it would be if it were in English -- 3rd link from the right
on the top). The first option in the first tab is language; make sure
it's set to English .

Just a note, Why don't you use the Gmail account as your main account?
Gmail has the best spam filter I have ever seen. 99.99% of spam goes
right into the Spam folder. I have been using Gmail for years now and
have only had 2 spam messages come into my inbox. The rest goes into
the spam folder. If you can't fix this cryllic problem, then use an
email client (I use Outlook Express) to retrieve and sent mail.

BTW, if you really want an email address to send spam to, use the
disposable email addresses at http://email.bugmenot.com/. There are
disposable email addresses available from other companies too. You use
them once and then they get disposed. No account creating, no nothing.
I use them all the time.
