Dear Experts
I have a Windows 2000 network with two Domain Controllers
and one windows 2000 Exchange Server. My Exchange Server is
a member Server. Since my Windows 2000 PDC is a a Normal
Machine, i Build a new Server which has a strong hardware.
i promoted it as a Backup domain controller in the same
domain.i want to take my existing PDC out and promote the
new BDC AS the PDC.I transferred the roles of the Existing
PDC TO the new BDC like RID MASTER.INFRASTRUCTURE
Master,PDC Emmulator, Domain Naming Master
and the Global Catalog Roles using Transfer method to the
New BDC.everything is working fine except the
Exchange. When i open the Microsoft outlook it is giving
the error message "Cannot find Exchange Server".When i
open the System manager on my exchange Server i open the
Reciepent Upate Policy,it is still pointing to old PDC.It
is giving an error that it cannot find the Global Catlog
Server.Ihave changed the global Catalog Server roles from
the old PDC TO new PDC through Active Directory Sites and
Services through NTDS Settings.Still i cannot connect to
my Exchange Server.
i need your help.
thanks
fasahat.

Remember you need to transfer 5 roles and 1 GC to have a backup DC working
like the master one.

You can find GC in AD Site and Service under individual server, NTDS
settings, properties.

You can have more than 1 GC in the same domain but it will increase traffic.
I usually keep 2 GC in 1 DC.

Jeremy.

The following KB will help you with the movement of the FSMO roles

You can have more than 1 GC in the same domain but it will increase traffic

In a single domain environment this wont cause any more traffic, or if it does, it'll be negligable. It is recommended that in a single domain environment all DCs are GCs. There should be a minimum of 2 GCs if not following the previous advice
I usually keep 2 GC in 1 DC

I can't see how you can possibly do this. Do you mean you have 1 GC for every 2 DCs
