Gigabyte GA-K8NS + Athlon64 problem

Hi.
A friend of mine bought Gigabyte GA-K8NS and Athlon64 3000+, but he has two
problems, sort of.
First (if it is a problem): during post there is a info that the CPU
frequency is at 200MHz (in bright white letters). Is that real CPU speed or
is that related to BIOS item "CPU OverClock in MHz" which is by default at
200?

Second: During post all devices are listed (HDD, CD-RW, DVD). WinXP install
starts normally, HDD can be formated, first set of data is copied to HDD.
After first reboot, when install should start from HDD, system gives message
"Error loading operating system". Why? All BIOS options are at default, no
RAID is enabled, disk functioned in previous PC. Same message appeared when
we tried to boot previous install of Win from previous PC.

I have to congratulate you for gritting as far as you have gotten. That is
the worst manual I have ever read from any MB company.

The 200MHz appears to be the system clock. Moving that up will over clock
the CPU. The whole board appears to assume the memory is PC3200.

The 'Error loading operating system' can be an adventure. There are many
suggestions ( and horror stories ) on the web.
Consider checking the HDD to insure that it did format one partition and
included an MBR. The disk manufactures floppy will give you a reading on
this.
Also, consider un-plugging the optical drive that you are not using for the
install. Maybe the optical drive with the install CD could be the master on
EIDE2.

It appears the OS can't find the HDD for some reason.

The fail-safe setting in the BIOS might be the safe way.
