Ghostcasting 12 PCs - Tips?

S

Scott Townsend

We just purchased 12 Dell PCs for our training class. We have Symantec
Ghost Solution Suite, though have only used it for Local Machine ghosting to
a secondary drive.

Since now we have all the same hardware we want to just make one image of
each of the Software sets and send that image out to all machines. I know
there are some issues with the Machine Name, SIDs and others things. All of
the Machines are running WinXP Pro

Any Tips on how to do this the 'right' way?

Thanks,
Scott<-

Hi Scott,

It all comes down to Sysprepping the system and the Sysprep.inf file. Once
this is done, then use Ghost to capture the image and then use it again to
Multicast the image out to the PC using a Ghost Boot Disk.

If you don't want to bother with the activation process, build your master
image using a volume license installation CD. Otherwise you will only be
able to image so many PCs before it won't work anymore. I'm not sure of the
number before the image won't work, but it isn't very many.
