will the original still remain in it's original position on my C drive?

Ghost takes an image of your partition/disk.

Think of it like a photograph - your data - frozen in time - never changing.
It doesn't steal the soul of the computer anymore than the phoptograph you
are comparing it to - it's just a picture of your system at a point in time.
