Ghost page numbers

When my Excel spreadsheets are multiple pages then there is a page number
overlaid on the spreeadsheet. I find this most annoying. How can I get rid
of it?
 
would you happen to be in Page Break View mode... like are you seeing blue
outlines? If you go to the toolbar and click View and then Normal... those
page numbers should disappear.
