Wondering if anybody can shed some light on this. One of our computers
(win xp pro, outlook 2003) that is relatively new is having a weird
outlook problem. It sends out messages fine, but every once in a while
a message will get "stuck" in the outbox. The message will send fine,
and will dissapear from the outbox, but on the left panel in next to
the little outbox icon it shows that there is still a message there.
It is currently up to showing 7 messages that arent really there. How
can i get right of that irritating number.

These could be read receipts or messages too large for the server, or any
number of others.

Do you have any type of 3rd party applications installed that integrate with
Outlook? (e.g. ICQ was one of the first programs that I remember that
caused what you describe. One had to disable ICQ's Outlook COM addin. This
was done by starting Outlook and selecting Tools | Options | Other tab |
Advanced Options | COM Addins.)

You also might want to check under this registry for other COM addins that
could be installed that the user interface wouldn't show:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

Hi, thanks for the pointers but the solutions you gave me didnt work.
It seemed like those were for messages that are stuck in the outbox and
will not send, or have sent and stayed in the outbox anyway. These
messages have sent and are not physically in the outbox. Therefore
switching profiles and attempting to delete the messages like that will
not work because the messages arent there to delete. All that is there
is the number next to the outbox that says they exist - [7]. Also,
everytime outlook is closed, I get the message that items in the outbox
have not been sent yet etc.
