Ghost folders

Hi there

I have a strange problem with my folders.

Here is what happened:

Six months ago I installed the Nokia PC Suite and the Sitecomm Bluetooth USB
adapter. Everything went smoothly. After a few weeks the Nokia PC Suite
began to misbehave and I decided to remove it.

I removed the software and the adapter without problems; at least that's
what I thought. Some of the Nokia software had to be removed manually but
some of the registry keys continued registered. I cleaned the registry with
Registry Medic and finally got a clean registry.

After a reboot I opened the windows explorer and found two folders created
by the Nokia PC Suite software. Being unnecessary I decided to remove them,
but the only thing I could do was to remove their name. I tried everything
but they still remain on the system.

My first thought was that my system could be infected by a Virus or Spy
Ware, but all scan results, with System restore turned off, were negative.

If there is anyone with a solution for my problem I would appreciate the
help. I am at the end of my patience.

Best regards

Joao Pinto

Software used:

Windows XP Professional SP2; Kaspersky Anti-virus Personal Pro; AD-Aware SE
Pro; SpyRemover; Registry Medic; Hijack This; Giant Antispyware; ZoneAlarm
Pro; PC Rescue 3.0; MV Regclean; Registry Optimizer

My software is original and was updated yesterday.

P.S. Forgive my bad English, but I'm from Portugal and not used to write in
English.

Have you thought about contacting Nokia for questions concerning Nokia software?

Properly written software does not need to be removed manually. In addition, you have seen the trouble that can be caused by registry cleaners, which is why you should not use them.

Best wishes for a happy new year.

I sent an e-mail to Nokia. Until now I got no reply.

This is obvious-so no offence-but have you made sure these folders are not
read only? Right click the folder select properties and under the attributes
clear the read only box. Now see if they delete. If there is still a problem
go to Start and Click on Run. In the dialogue box type cmd and a command
prompt window should appear. Type into that chkdsk c: /f assumming the odd
folders are on the c drive. Reply ok to the dialogues that appear and
restart your system. This should clear any bad enteries in the c drive
partition table. Let us know what happens

Hi

I already did what you suggested. It was my first reaction to the problem.
But when I select the folder the only option available is 1 - Open

2 Explore 3 Expand. No other options appear.

And the folders are not on the drive!?

Best regards

Look in the registry for "namespace" items. If there are any found that are
for the Nokia camera/software, delete them. If this is the cause and the
folders do not disappear after a restart, you should now be able to delete
them manually.
