The CD is only needed for a disaster-recovery restore when the OS
won't boot.

The CD is bootable and sets up a stand alone Pre-XP environment (I
forgot the exact term it's called) from which you can then restore
your failed partition from your Ghost 9 backup to a new hard drive.

If you are just restoring a few files or restoring a non-operating
system partition, that is all done from with XP, and the CD is not
needed.

That is just plain wrong.

You can restore after booting the CD, but you dont have to restore that way.

Its just plain wrong.

Note that if your OS is Windows and your installation required installing drivers with F6, e.g., RAID drivers, then using the CD in the boot mode may require installing these drivers in the same manner.
