One message when I go to the desktop shortcut reads," Unable to open your
default e-mail folders. Could not open the item. Try again." - Click
Okay and it gives me the option of "Would you like to open your default file
system folder instead?"

if I go to the quick launch bar and click Launch Microsoft Outlook, I get
the message " Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Could not open the item. Try
again."

I recently got the Office 2003 package and uninstalled the trial version of
Outlook that came with my computer when I got it before installing it (as I
was instructed by Microsoft tech) and now I'm pretty much stuck... can still
use the Window's Outlook Express just fine... Have uninstalled Office 2003 a
couple times hoping I'd just had a bad area in the install, but no luck there
either... tried everything else I could think of, re-adding my account in
Mail under Control Panel... making sure it was activated, and a few other
things I tried but can't recall now.... Any ideas?

Have you tried creating a new Outlook Data File in the Control Panel's Mail
applet? It could be that the one Outlook 'thinks' it should be using is gone
and now it's 'confused'

Not sure what happened, but was going through the steps to create profiles
and copied one and renamed it to something else, rather than just starting
another new one from scratch, and it worked after that.... *shrug* Thanks
for the help though. :-)
