Getting to WebSite without using WWW

M

Marvin Miller

Hi Folks;

I'm using Windows 2000 and DNS. Everything is fine but I'd like to have web
users be able to access my site without having to type in WWW. IE;

microsoft.com

takes you to the Microsoft website.

I've done this before and for some reason I _always_ forget how. If someone
could tell me what record I need to create I'd appreciate it!

Thanks;
Marvin

You need to add a new host leaving the name field blank.
That said, if the domain is also the name of your Active Directoy domain,
all Domain Controllers will register these records by default and you should
not modify this behavior. It is this record that resolves the DFS Logon
Shares, \\ADDNSDomain\SYSVOL and \\ADDNSDomain\NETLOGON
