Getting rid of windows messenger

David

How do I get rid of windows messenger. I don't want it
and don't use it.I can't find it in the control panel
under "add and remove" software. I keep getting pop-ups
to update it when I log on line. It's an annoyance that
I can do without

TIA
David

Hi,

To Prevent Windows Messenger from Running on a Windows XP-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302089&Product=WinMsgr

When you do this your Windows Messenger won't show up in your taskbar
anymore

However if you want to completely remove/uninstall Windows Messenger from
Windows XP can be found at this website made by Jonathan Kay.
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/problem.aspx?ID=7

Follow the steps and the pictures that the website has and you shouldn't
have anymore problems. Uninstalling Windows Messenger can disable some of
the messenger features such as Whiteboard Sharing, and others on MSN
Messenger if you're using that.

Hello,
I have removed windows Messenger several times in all possible ways.
But, each time it is coming back! It is not coming back with windows update
because
I have disabled it in this list and I don't update automaticly.
If you don't believe me (and most people in te the newsgroup don't because
it should be inpossible)
try it for yourself. First remove Windows messenger in your own way. Then
use Messenger 6.1 and use
MSN-explorer. After a few sessions (Sometimes 1 sometimes 5 or 6 ) you wil
see that it is
again installed on your comp.
How ?? is this possible?? I think that MSN-explorer or Messenger 6.1
automaticly
update this programs in the background. If someone knows more about this
problem I like
to know.
Sorry for the English
Greetings,
Rob (NL)

Thank you for telling me this Jonathan, You are the first one that confirms
my idea about this matter.
Now I know it is useless to remove it as I occasionally use MSN-expl.
Greetings, Rob
