Getting rid of US Spelling Check

Hello There

Can someone please tell me how to get rid of US Spell Check. My document is
automatically in UK, however when i press F7 it uses the US version.

When i select UK within the box the words may change, however when it goes
to the next word it will default back to US.

Im using Word 2003.

I have deleted USA stuff in the Regional Settings and cant find anything
else within Word to find USA default for spell check.

Help would be much appreciated..... Colour is spelled with a u.

This is a usual bug-bear, and unfortuantely the US Dictionary will always be
the first that Word will refer to.

very good information about the SpellCheck in Word, controlling languages,
and especially have a look at the Custom Dictionaries section.
And also see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/ExcludeWordFromDic.htm for
how you can tell Word to dis-allow certain words, such as color, regardless
of the language setting. I also use this excluding dictionary to exclude
other words which are allowed by all dictionaries but that should not appear
in any professional document, swear words, etc.

I believe that I had this same problem a while back, possibly worst as I
would get French (France) as well as English (US), very confusing.
Changing the settings within Control Panel did not stop the problem.
Eventually the problem was solved by some investigation by the company IT
department, who worked with the Registry codes for languages and did
something to stop Word fluctuating between English (UK) and English (US).
English (UK) code is 2057 (LCID Dec) please check on:
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/lcid-all.mspx
This will not stop other people pasting in new text with other languages
being assigned, but at least they will always be highlighted for correction.

Every character in a Word document can have its own proofing language
attribute.
Do ensure that Review > Proofing > Set Language > Detect Language
Automatically is unchecked.
Note that if you paste from the web the text will almost ceretainly be
formatted as USA English so select it and change the language.
If Windows Regional settings are configured for UK English then Word's
settings should match, but do check the styles you are using are formatted
as UK English.
