Getting it right the first time

Stop putting out these new damn versions that are so buggy they can barely
even work. At least 3-4 times a day VISTA stops working and I have to
reboot. I'm about 1 step away from say F*** windows and getting an apple.
Nothing windows ever makes seems to work right, and when it finally becomes
usable its already been out for 3-4 years.

Microsoft has never gotten it right the first time, nor will they get it
right the hundredth time! That is a fact of life.

If you don't like it, move to Apple, Linux, or Xbox!

You need to immediately switch to some version of linux. Urbuttoo seems
to be the latest fad of the 4,000 possibles distros. That way you can
become an official linux troll instead of a wannabe.
Good luck and good riddance.

Suggest you take that last step!

Do you have any specific problem(s) that you need help with, or are
you just venting?

It clearly sounds like an issue of
ncompatible/sub-standard/defective hardware, or device drivers, or
defective/sub-standard wetware.

Shouldn't they be writing their own operating systems?

I don't see much difference between being given the
technology for nothing or buying it apart from the
supplier being rewarded..

Personally I have difficult getting stressed up about
rewarding someone who provides me with a service.

In both cases one ends up with an OS someone else
has written. There's no moral high ground to be had
be accepting Linux freebies.

Can someone please explain to me why it is so heinous that M$
pays for other peoples technology that is included in their products?

Getting Linux to work is much easier...for instance: (From a linux online
class)

Q In trying to get LINUX working with the Internet, but I'm having trouble
activating the network device "eth0." It reports that a "tulip device for
eth0 is not present."

A Here are some things to check:

1. See if "lsmod" shows the tulip driver as loaded.
2. If it's not loaded, try "modprobe tulip" and see if it complains.
3. If it doesn't complain, see if it shows up in "lsmod" now.
4. If tulip now shows up, see if "ifconfig" lists eth0.
5. If eth0 shows up, make sure you have an "alias eth0 tulip" in your
/etc/modules.conf file.
6. You should be able to config it now.

Seems much easier than any Windows method. :)

Hi VH--

1) I'd encourage you to get an Apple if you can afford it. You can run
Vista on it via Virtual programs. You'll enjoy it. They do an awful lot of
things well. To appreciate some of them read Walt Mossberg:

http://mossblog.allthingsd.com

2) Before we can help you you have to be specific about what stops working
in Vista. Maybe Vista stops working because ***YOU*** need help on how to
make it work from us.

3) You aren't talking to MSFT when you talk to people on this group. You're
talking to your peers and among them unpaid helpers who try to get Vista and
applications on it working for you.

4) You can go to the Vista Team blog and share your assessment with Nick
White, PM of the Vista Marketing Communications team whom I'm sure will be
delighted to hear them.

5) Gates said at Win Hec yesterday they have sold 40million Vistas. It
seems to be moving out of Redmond, and they seem to be making some bucks
from it.

Seriously, I have been critical of Vista when I thought it was merited and
MSFT's educating the public on how to use it which still needs work, but an
awful lot of work, imagination, and talent went into Vista and continues to
go into Vista and I suggest if anyone digs in there is a lot to appreciate.

Again if you can tell us what does not work, someone will try to help you.
We are not MSFT. We help their customers for free--many of us do it because
their outsourced contract phone support is eggregiously bad.

I agree with strife, i havent had one problem with vista64 yet,
you haters just dont know how to use it :p lets all go on the
Apple forums and tell them how crap the mac is shall we.

Two wrongs don't make a right, just put him in a kill file and be done
with him (or anyone else like him for that fact). The more these types
are responded to, the longer they stay.

Chad had a good response here already.

I'd add that in every situation in life you are going to run into problems.
The first step forward is to define and communicate your problem. Given the
millions of hours put into Vista testing, it's generally going to be
surprisingly stable -- if the average beta tester was having Vista stop
working 3-4 times a day, that'd be a huge problem. So the *odds* are that
it may be something fairly unique to what's going on on your system
(oftentimes isolated out to third party components/code that did *not* go
through extensive Vista testing). This means that regardless of all else,
there's probably a way forward for you if you can identify, isolate, and fix
that difference/problem.

There's many guides to writing good posts. If you're crashing repeatedly,
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket
points out how to gather the really key data for crashes (from the
helpful-ish Problem Reports and Solutions center). But this isn't Product
Support Services, as Chad pointed out. If you want help *here* in this
unsupported peers-only forum, make a good post and hope --
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#isolate
is my guide for good WMP-centric posts, there's many other guides for
Windows-centric posts -- but if you really want *support*, you would want to
take it to *support*:
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#psssupport
is again my WMP-centric support reference.

Anyways, I wish you well. I know problems can be frustrating, but the good
news is that it's generally possible to move past them with a little
time/effort. Venting can be good, but including the specifics of the
problems you're experiencing is probably the best way to potentially move
forward thanks to the handy wisdom of others.

Respectfully,
-Zach

[...]just put him in a kill file and be done

I don't meant to offend you but I always want to laugh out loud when I see
someone try to kill file someone else.

Do you know what actually says?

That means, you have no self-control. You can't control yourself from
reading that person's posts. If you have self-control and self-confidence,
you know that it's up to you to skip any person's post or simply mark it (or
entire conversation) as read.

By kill file or block someone, you are actually hiding away and turning your
back to something that you don't want to face.

I actually kill filed Doris the other day, I got so fed up with her stupid
rants and burps, but you know what, I actually missed her idiot posts, and
now my file sits empty again.
Doris you should feel honoured, the only person to ever grace my kill file,
and probably the last.
