Getting emails back?

Hi all,

I am using Outlook 2003. I had lots of different directories
and subdirectories under Inbox. I did an archive function
to a file named 20070417.pst where the date went from
1/1/07 to the oldest. I then did another archive function that
went from 4/17/07 to the oldest to the same filename
20070417.pst. I copied the following to an external source:

Outlook.pst 797,585 KB 4/18/2007 7:30pm
20070417.pst 684,497 KB 4/18/2007 7:30pm
backup.pst 265 KB 2/7/2006 4:52pm
extend.dat 1 KB 4/6/2007 2:43pm

I copied the above to a new computer. I then did a
File -> Open -> Outlook Data File -> and pointed
to the 20070417.pst. It created all the directories and
subdirectories with the names in them but there was
NO EMAILS. Where did my emails go? How do I
get them back?

thanks,
charles......

If you were using autoarchive, remember that it operates on the date an item
was last *modified* - which may not match what you see, or think it is. I
generally discourage autoarchive, and recommend that users manually move
items to 'archive' PST files named logically.

When you did the initial archives, did you check the PST files to make sure
you had what you needed?

When you copied the PST files to the external drive/whatnot, are you sure
that Outlook was not running at the time? Meaning, outlook.exe wasn't
running in the background, even if Outlook itself appeared closed? You
can't copy/move PST files when Outlook has them open in any way.

Well I feel a little sheepish. I just didn't scroll down far enough so I
did find
my emails. But I am having another problem. When I created the emails
and stuff I was on a prior computer with a different account name. Now,
when I try to use my address book/contacts list I get the following error:

The address list can not be displayed. The contacts folder associated with
this address list can not be opened. It may have been moved or deleted or
you do not have permissions.

I think it is a permissions issue but I don't know which file/directory to
take ownership of or how to do it. Any ideas?

thanks,
charles.....
