Getting around a CRCheck

I created a DVD from my Panasonic DVD recorder to capture some recorded TV
off our DirecTV DVR. I've done this before, and have been able to make
copies from the DVD with Nero [boo,hiss, :-) ]. My latest effort failed with
a cyclic redundancy check. In video_ts, there's one (known) file that's the
culprit. Is there some way to correct the problem?

Which version of Nero are you using? Basically, if you can burn the first
one, there should not be much issue of another one. I suggest you to replace
that one file with the copy from your first DVD and make sure no application
is running on your computer while you do the DVD burning. You can use
rewriteable DVD disc so that you won't waste money on a failed run of Nero.
You can also try to uncheck the settings of write verification or CRC check
if you see any on the Nero interface before you go ahead to proceed the
burning. Sometimes a single file may not interrupt the whole play of the
video. There might be some options from Nero to clone DVD also. You can use
that and see whether it works. Hope it helps. Have a good one.

Actually, I didn't fully state the problem. Nero balked, alright, but the
source of the problem came later. I was trying to copy the video_ts folder
from the DVD onto my HDD. There's where the CRC happened. Nero probably
stumbled on it too. I may try copying all the other files, as you suggest,
and then work on the single file. I hope there's not another one.

Are you really copying a DVD of your own or a commercial copy protected DVD?
I ask because including CRC errors in one, some or all of the .VOB files is
one of the many ways commercial DVDs attempt to thwart casual copying. The
CRC error is in a part of the file that doesn't actually get read when
playing the DVD normally.

Installing AnyDVD will overcome the problem as it will detect and correct
the error.

Essentialy my own.

Success! There were 9 30 minute TV programs on the DVD. One file gave the
CRC, and, when I tried it on another PC, it was the same. I decided to burn
a DVD with just the troublesome show, and use new file. It worked. Now I can
erase 4.5 hours of video from my DirecTV DVR.

That CRC certainly wasn't pleasant. Whenever it occurred, it eventually took
down all folders that were open. Nor responding was a frequent visitor when
I used the task mgr to see why the machine had slowed.
