Getting access to computers on me network

Rob

I'm connecting my laptop that is running win xp to the
work network that is all running win me. I have a unique
IP address for the network.

I can connect to the internet (so the hardware is not a
problem), I can also see the majority of the workgroup
computers in the explorer window. The problem that I have
is when I try to connect to any of the individual
computers in the workgroup, I'm suddenly denied access by
them even though they have shared folders and they work
with the other computers on the network. I guess there's
something that I've missed in the file and printer sharing
settings. Can anyone help. I've tried searching the
forum, but can only see info when you can't see the
computers at all.

Thanks.

Wow, I actually managed to sort this one out!! After many
hours trying to solve it, it turned out to be the subnet
mask that had to be changed from 255.255.0.0 that matches
the ME computers rather than the 255.255.255.0 that I had
set on the XP computer.

Don't know enough about this sort of thing to understand
whether there's a big difference between the two, anyway I
don't care now, 'cause it's working! Yipee!
