Get the short path name

I had a quick look on the newsgroup, but i couldn't find the answer.

I have a long path name but i need to be able to extract the shortpath name
from it

How do i do this?

start , run , type cmd then enter
go to the root ( cd.. and press enter untill you reach the root of C )

now type progra~1

hey doens`t that look familiar ??? wel you have just entered the program
files folder ,, so this is the short path name

should be type cd progra~1 and press enter
