Get rid of messenger

How do I get rid of messenger? I don't use it and I'm
tired of seeing it open overy time I turn on the
computor. I've gone into "options"/"preferences" and
unchecked everything. I also went into Outlook and
removed the check from "automaticly access messenger".

Please help me kill it. I want it gone.

Greetings,

You can completely remove Windows Messenger (4.7) but if you do, you will be preventing
Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, and Application Sharing from working.

However, assuming you don't use this functionality, you can simply remove it by closing down
Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger icon in the notification area/system
tray and click close). Then click the start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste
if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,

John,
Thanks for your response. A couple of things you said got
my attention;

"You can completely remove Windows Messenger (4.7) but if
you do, you will be preventing
Remote Assistance, Whiteboard, and Application Sharing
from working."

What are these and are they necessary on a stand alone
home computer?

If they are important and it would be better to leave
msnger installed, can I at least stop it from opening
unless I want it open?

Thanks, Dan
