Get rid of hijackers, especially lop.com

Guest

I have IE 6.0, have downloaded and installed every update I can find.
I have been totally hijacked even though I wasn't using IE at the time. The
basic problem is that IE opens on its own and is locked to lop.com's home
page and its variants.
In addition, I cannot open any folder on my desktop. The PC churns and then
I get some bizarre Dr. Watson message (what the *** is this Dr. Watson about,
anyway? MS documentation is sadly lacking in this area) and nothing happens.
Question 1: how do I clean up my browser? I've bought lavasoft's Ad-Aware
and used nearly every other free tool I can find.
Question 2: How do I disable/delete/avoid IE? I use Mozilla Firefox and love
it. I don't want IE. I don't want the risks that IE invariably presents.
