Get a pivot table to ignore data

For example I have 2 columns of data. One column has names and the other a
score. A name can appear many times but I only want the pivot table to show
and count the instances where a certain score was achieved. So if someone
has passed they do not show on the pivot table but if they failed it will
give the count of fails and the score for each.

Robert 111 suggested a sumproduct function but I don't see how this would
help.

Add another column to the source data, and calculate if the score is a
pass or a fail. For example:

=IF(B2>=$E$1,"Pass","Fail")

Where scores are in column B, and cell E1 contains the minimum score
required to pass.

Add the new field to the pivot table's page area, and choose Pass from
its dropdown list.
