GET A BLACK RECTANGULAR IMAGE WHEN INSERTING PICTURES INTO POWERP

On my DELL computer that is running Windows XP: When attempting to copy
pictures from ACDSee (.jpg files) to a PowerPoint 97 presentation only a
black image appears when I try to paste the picture into PPT. Text files
transfer OK. Same issue occurs if I us insert image in PPT.

This version of PPT is also insatalled on another of my computers that is
running Windows 98 and there are no problems with copying or inserting
picture files into PPT on this machine.

Anyone have a solution??
