My pc was made for me about 4 years ago. The person who made it is no longer
available to answer questions about it. I receive the messages that say that
my Windows XP Pro is a pirated version. What am I supposed to do? Pay for
it again?

If the other person pirated it - it is not your problem so long as you
bought in "good faith" - ie you are not the pirate,,

Please follow this WGA troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and install the WGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click
on the "Validation" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the
"WGA Validation Problems" forum and paste the
results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in your post.
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and
recommend an appropriate solution.

I might not be the pirate, but I continue to receive the messages. I want
to get this resolved, not just ignore it.

Hi Jupiter, the first link basically says that I have to purchase a new copy
of Windows. That's unacceptable to me because I already paid for Windows to
be installed in my pc.

The second link asks for the disk or a receipt. I don't have a disk and the
person who made my pc 4 years ago was a friend who passed away last year.

Thanks for trying to help.

Denise

As I see it, if you do in fact have a pirated copy, your only option is to
buy a legit copy, unacceptable or not.
It is not Microsofts responsibility to replace illegal copies sold by
irreputable vendors for free.

I've received other options here and I've followed up on several of them;
they are legal and I seem to not have to purchase a new copy of Windows.

You may have paid for Windows, but the person apparently did not have it to
sell.
Effectively you bought a computer without an operating system.

Your recourse is with the person selling illegitimate products and not with
Microsoft.
In your case it seems the Microsoft tools are working exactly as advertised.

I am sorry your friend passed away, but that does not change the fact that
this issue is not caused by Microsoft at all and the obvious solution is
considered unacceptable by you.
But there are other alternatives such as Linux which is free.

In the future take your computer to a reputable tech to prevent these type
of issues.

Do those options make Windows XP legitimate?
If the option only stops the message, that does no more to make Windows
legitimate than changing the locks on a home and say it is yours since you
now have easy access.

Jones, Did you not read my reply? The person has passed away, or does my
loss of someone close to me mean nothing to you? To reiterate, I found a
legitimate means in which to resolve the issue.

There are many things that I can say to a person who is bent on pointing
fingers, making accusations, and giving no help when help is asked for, but
instead gives grief. For instance, "Let him without sin cast the first
stone," or "The man doth protest too much."

I will ask you very plainly so that they'll be no misunderstanding . . .
please leave no responses in any posts that I place at this forum. I find
your counsel (if what you had to say can be considered counsel) of no help.
Not only has it been of no help, it has taken time that I could have used
constructively.

Denise

While the situation is unfortunate as I already suggested, it is not
relevant to the legitimacy of Windows.

It is up to you to use your newsreader to block posts from anyone you choose
not to see.
In any event, I will not post further to you in this thread.

LOL! Failing WGA doesn't make the Windows illegit. I've seen legit
Windows fail WGA, and I've seen pirated Windows pass WGA. WGA means
absolutely nothing when it comes to determining the legitimacy of
Windows.

"Failing WGA doesn't make the Windows illegit."
I never said either way about WGA, but you often seem to need others to say
things they did not.

There is insufficient information from the OP to determine if hers is
legitimate.
But indications are it is pirated since she already suggested she has a
pirated Product ID.
The link she used to determine a fix was to purchase, has nothing to do with
WGA.

Please quote, and give link.

Ah! I missed having some fool changing my words for me without my
permission! Thanks fool! :-p

See my first post to the OP and her response.
As I said before, there is insufficient information from her to make a
determination.

IOW, the OP didn't suggest that anything was pirated, and you just made
that BS up in that tiny little pea brain of yours.

You owe me $5 million dollars! :)
