Generic Host Process for Win32 Services problem

Every time I use AOL the following error message
appears "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has
encontered a problem and needs to close". The problem
occurs anywhere between 30 seconds to 10 minutes after
getting online and does not seem to be related to any
certain web site. After the message appears, I get
an "action cancelled" message when trying to view new web
sites. Then I have to use Task Manager / End Task to quit
AOL. I have to restart my computer to get AOL to work
again, and it often will not shut down normally - I have
to switch off the power.
Software: AOL 7.0 & Windows XP Home 5.1
Hardware: Dell Dimension 4550
