Generic Host Process for Win 32 error

G

Guest

In the last 24 hours I have been getting nurmerous errors of "Generic Host
Process for win 32 has to close your broswer", etc. Or the browser will
freeze and the error comes on. I have searched for what to do and have tried
the few things I found like reinstalling my HP Photosmart printer driver.

What else should I do where do I look? I am not real computer savy so need
step by step help and how to find things.

I have Win XP SP 2

Thanks so much.

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Report in the System and
Application over the last 2 days and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Yes SP 2 is installed. I have had none of these issues until yesterday or
maybe some the day before. Like late on the first and really showed up on the
2nd and bad today. Takes me 2-3 reboots just to get back online again without
the genric host error.

I have downloaded that, in fact I already had it on my system...the one when
starting up the computer. And I still am getting the Generic Host error. I
have had no problems with emails.

What are your anti-virus / anti-spyware arrangements?

All up to date almost daily. I use Yahoo Anti-spy, Lavasoft Adware , Windows
Firewall, and Computer Associates Anit-virus pakage (includes popup
protections, etc. My yahoo email is scanned by Norton, etc. All spam goes
into a bulk folder which empties automatically so I never open anything
unless it comes to my inbox and I recgonize it. I seldom surf into any
"unknown" sites, etc. so this confuses me if indeed I have some "bug" in the
system all of a sudeen especially since I have not been on line much over the
long Holiday weeks. :(

Well thanks for all the suggestions, but I am heading to bed now and will
continue on tthe mission tomorrow. Good night Gerry
