Can anybody please help. I keep getting the following message everytime I
boot up. Generic Host Process for win 32 Services must close (or something
like that). The information as to why is as follows:
s2 App Name svchost.exe
s2 Mod Name ntdll.dll
s2 Mod Vers 5.1.2600.2180 offset 0018fea
D:/......./TEMP/WERae.88.dir00/SVCHOST.EXE MDMN
WERae.88.dir00/appcompat.txt
I am convinced it isn't a virus since I've checked with AVG. I also have
Zone Alarm and AdAware.
I can't find either of those files (svchost.exe or appcompat.txt) at all.
Help would be very much appreciated

appcompat.txt shows up in a temporary folder.

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp\WERae.88.dir00\appcompat.txt

The appcomp.txt file is created when there is a conflict between programs,
drivers, etc. It is a reporting file used when uploading error reports to
Microsoft. Appcomp probably stands for Application Compatibility.

If you do not want to see appcomp.txt again, disable Error Reporting.

Open System Properties...
Start | Run | Type: sysdm.cpl | Click OK |
Advanced tab | Error Reporting button | Check:
Disable Error Reporting | Check: But notify
me when critical errors occur | OK | Apply | OK

Disable Error Reporting
[[Select to disable error reporting. When this option is selected, error
reports will not be generated.]]

But notify me when critical errors occur
[[Select this option to have Windows notify you when a critical error
occurs, even if you have disabled Error Reporting.]]

Thank you Wesley. I think I'd rather find the cause of the problem than
disable 'error reporting' (with the exception of major crashes}. I have
already downloaded KB894391 but it didn't do any good. I'll read the
description of syshost.exe and see if that has anything. Meanwhile, any more
suggestions?
