Generating activity log for user changes

I have a client/case database with multiple tables and users. When a
user modifies any field in a client or case record, I record the
current user and the date of the modification in each table. I need to
generate a daily
activity log to reflect who made the changes and if possible what changes
were made. Currentlt I am running a query/report with just username and time
of edit but I have to manually check every record against the previous nights
back up. Is there an easier way to do this?
