General Updates for Word

Is there any update that makes it easy to add up a column of numbers in Word?

I got confused between writing my subject and my question.

I wanted to know if general updates come directly to me somehow.

And then, I wanted to know if there is an update which allows someone to put
a column of figures into a Word document, and select the column and have it
add up...

Word was like that in my MacIntosh, and I LOVED it!!!!!

Go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx and
download the software that enables automatic updates. That will
include Office as well as Windows updates. If you don't want to do
that, you can click Help > Check for Updates in any Office program at
any time.

You don't need an update to add a column of figures. Open the Tools >
Customize dialog. Click Tools in the Categories list. Scroll down the
Commands list to find "Tools Calculate", and drag that item from the
dialog to the Tools menu or to any toolbar. Now, any time you have a
column of numbers, select them and click the Tools Calculate command.
The answer will appear on the status bar at the bottom, and it will
also be placed on the clipboard so you can paste it anywhere you want.
You can also calculate formulas written in-line, using the operators
+, - , * , / , and ^ (the last one for exponents). For example, type

(3 + 4) ^ 2

and select it. Click Tools Calculate, and the result 49 will be on the
clipboard.

If the column of numbers is in a table, there's a Formula item on the
Table menu, and the formula

=SUM(ABOVE)

in the bottom cell of a column will give the sum of the cells above it

limitation and workarounds). Read the Help topic "Perform calculations
in a table" to see what else you can do with these formulas.

Wow!!!!!! Seriously????? I can actually get it to add up numbers if I do
that.... wow.

I will go try that right now. I'm a bit slow and it often takes me awhile to
do even simple things.

But boy, what a Dynamite Christmas gift!!!!!! Or... Holiday.... gift.

Oh my gosh, it works!!!!!!
I have wanted this for so many years.

I was considering buying an Apple just for this one function.... I had no
idea!!!!!

I was so sure it wasn't possible that it took me quite a long time to follow
your directions. I hadn't ever been that deep into the tools before.

Gosh!!!!! Wow!!!!!

And, .... it works!!!!!!!!!

I tried the cell thing several times... and luckily didn't go totally bald
from pulling out my hair.

I'm not a maths type person. When I took SATs three hundred million years
ago, I got on the 22nd percentile for maths, but the 98th for reading and
comprehension.

I would love if you could tell me what to use to multiply and divide....

you even more!!!!!!!!

You are saving me so many millions of hours. When I use my calculator I have
to do it over and over and over because I so seldom get the same answer
twice....

Oh, that is neat!

Gosh, it's even a better function than I could have hoped.

You know, I have been wrongly bad mouthing microsoft because there was no
way to get help.... I had no idea there was this terrific forum for help.
