I have just purchased a server with W2K and Terminal
Serivces installed in Application mode. The server is a
2.4 GHz cpu and 512Meg of ram. I am using this
configuration for a 3 terminal Point of Sale software
package called NextPOS. The 3 terminal machines are Dell
Axiom X5 running over a wireless link.

Problem:
I have solved almost all of the communication problems for
the wireless medium. The problem is that the POS
application hangs or has very long pauses every 1-2
minutes. If I wait for the long pause to clear, it takes
an average of 3-4 minutes. I have also tried running the
POS application directly from the server and no pauses are
found.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this to
see if it's the Terminal Services or the POS application?

Also, would it help to add another 512Meg of ram for more
caching on the 3 terminal client sessions?

Thanks for any help.

I am on Service pack 4.

The article you referred to appears to relate very closely to what I am
seeing. How do I get a copy of the fix? I have scheduled downtime for the
server this weekend.

Matthew,

I also noticed in the article you referred to about resource contention.
Would adding another 512Meg of ram help the problem?

I would call Microsoft and ask them for the fix. It is
free, just be sure to ask for the fix by the article
number.

More memory is always better. If you think the terminal
server is running low on memory, then by all means, add
some more in. The price of memory is rather cheap, so a
small investment like that will go a long way.

This will also help your server to keep up with growing
users and growing applications.
