The only tabs available when I choose, My Computer, Tools, Folder Options are
'File Types' and 'Offline Files'.

System restore won't help; I'm not sure when it changed.

Using XP Pro--standalone

Download the following file to your desktop and double-click to *merge* the
file into the registry. This should fix the Tab issue in Folder Options.

http://www.lprf.ca/files/folder_options_tab_fix.reg

NOTE: You may need to restart the computer for the changes to apply. Also to
view the file contents, simply right-click and select Edit.

One more thing to check. Check the permissions on this key in the registry,

[HKCR\CLSID\{6D5313C0-8C62-11D1-B2CD-006097DF8C11}]

Righ-click on {6D5313C0-8C62-11D1-B2CD-006097DF8C11} and select PERMISSIONS.
Ensure, you're account, the SYSTEM account and the Administrators account
has full control check off. Check the sub keys "InProcServer32"
under{6D5313C0-8C62-11D1-B2CD-006097DF8C11} as well for permissions.

I confirmed/changed the permissions for all, except the following

restricted--is it safe to change this to 'full"

CreaterOwner--wouldn't let me change it. The boxes are blank, when I check
it and click on apply, it clears my checkmarks.

I still don't have the general and view tabs.

The CreaterOwner and Restricted enter are fine.

I will look further into this issue for you.

I have more information.

Two weeks ago, I don't know why, but I right click on the 'documents and
settings' folder. I believe I chose to change it and all of the subfolders to
be shared.

It took quite awhile for all of the attributes to be changed(77K files, 11gb).

Now that folder has a sharing and security tab. The sharing tab displays the
radio button 'do not share this folder'. Even the 'All Users' and all of the
subfolders have the same setting.

Did that disable Simple File Sharing? Can it be undone? This is a
standalone, no network with just my husband and I sharing. I would like to
use the simple file sharing.

Thanks

A couple of questions for you:

1. Does your husband have his own user account? If so, are the General and
View tabs showing in his account for Folder Options?

2. If you and your Husband are using the same user account then can you
create a new account to determine if the General and View tabs are showing
in the Folder Options? Directions on how to create a user account: [Control
Panel > User Account > Create New Account.]

You can safely delete the newly create User account after checking the
Folder Options for the missing General and View tabs.

3. Could you download this file to your desktop then double-click the file
called "policies.cmd"? This file will collect information on policy
restriction which may be preventing you from seeing the General and View
tab.

http://www.lprf.ca/files/batch/policies.cmd

Now there will be 4 new files on your desktop after you run the
"policies.cmd" file. These files are named:

"HKCUpolicy1.txt"
"HKCUpolicy2.txt"
"HKLMpolicy1.txt"
"HKLMpolicy2.txt"

Now please email me these files as an attachment so I can examine the
contents. Email me at (e-mail address removed). Remove the NOSPAM from the
email address so the email me not bounce back to you.

Here is an registry edit so you can use Simple File Sharing since you cannot
see the General tab in the Folder Options.

[HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
Locate and double-click "ForceGuest". Change the value to 1. If you would to
disable Simple File Sharing change the value to 0. NOTE: You may need to
restart the computer for the changes to occur.

I have tried several registry 'patches' to no avail. I have seen many
solutions on here, all of which have not yielded any results.

I am not sure what went wrong, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to be
able to see hidden files again.

To top it all off, I was simply going to reformat my system (it's long
overdue anyway), but my OS CD is cracked. It looks like I'm going to have to
troubleshoot this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the reply, William.

I currently run XP Home on my desktop (the one with the tabs missing). I
also have a laptop that I run XP Pro on. I would be willing to ask a few
friends if they run Home, if that may lend itself to a solution.

I've also double-checked the Permissions in that registry key...a-ok. I've
even attempted a few system restores, but because I'm unclear what caused the
initial failure, I don't think I'm able to 'go back' far enough,
unfortunately.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Please add me to the list of those having this problem. Mine is exactly as described above, except I'm using XP Pro rather than XP Home. The General and View tabs are both missing from Tools\Folder Options on all Explorer windows, and in the Folder Options applet in the Control Panel. This happens on all profiles on this machine, including the Administrator. I've tried all the repair methods mentioned so far with no luck.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

I also have this problem.

I have tried several registry 'patches' to no avail. I have seen many
solutions on here, all of which have not yielded any results.

I am not sure what went wrong, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes
to
be
able to see hidden files again.

To top it all off, I was simply going to reformat my system (it's long
overdue anyway), but my OS CD is cracked. It looks like I'm going to
have
to
troubleshoot this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

:

I confirmed/changed the permissions for all, except the following

restricted--is it safe to change this to 'full"

CreaterOwner--wouldn't let me change it. The boxes are blank, when I
check
it and click on apply, it clears my checkmarks.

I still don't have the general and view tabs.

One more thing to check. Check the permissions on this key in the
registry,

[HKCR\CLSID\{6D5313C0-8C62-11D1-B2CD-006097DF8C11}]

Righ-click on {6D5313C0-8C62-11D1-B2CD-006097DF8C11} and select
PERMISSIONS.
Ensure, you're account, the SYSTEM account and the Administrators
account
has full control check off. Check the sub keys "InProcServer32"
under{6D5313C0-8C62-11D1-B2CD-006097DF8C11} as well for permissions.

The only tabs available when I choose, My Computer, Tools,
Folder
Options
are
'File Types' and 'Offline Files'.

Download the following file to your desktop and double-click to
*merge*
the
file into the registry. This should fix the Tab issue in Folder
Options.

http://www.lprf.ca/files/folder_options_tab_fix.reg

NOTE: You may need to restart the computer for the changes to
apply.
Also
to
view the file contents, simply right-click and select Edit.
