Just uncheck "Use LDS data" in the preferences.

Why? The LDS Church keeps incredible family histories. Some of that data
may apply to you, even if you're not LDS. I'm not, never have been, but a
considerable chunk of my family history is stored there, because one of my
mother's uncles converted. Members of the LDS are required to keep
genealogy records.

Arbor Vita - 90 KB
Arbor Vita is a freeware that lets you display your genealogy tree on
the web by generating HTML pages. Unlike many other softwares of this
kind, it displays genealogy trees graphically and minimizes the number
of pages generated by generating one page for all individuals in the
same family. You have the choice of generating these HTML pages as
files once for all, or let the java applet generate them on-the-fly
while the user browses the pages. Another particularity is that it is
configurable enough to let you generate your pages in the language of
your choice.
These are the features offered by Arbor Vita:
- Each family page contains the vital stats of the two parents and all
children, and the descendants and ascendants tree of both parents
- All pages are linked together through their last name: ascending link
for parents, descending link for children
- Color coded sex and family relationship for individuals (blue for
boys, pink for girls, white for in-laws)
- 5 indices available in each page header: list of families or
individuals sorted by first names, last names, birth dates and
birthdays
  • Pages are pure HTML, they can be saved, e-mailed, printed, etc...
  • Pages can be generated as files to upload to your site, or can be
generated on-the-fly by your browser
- Only the pages containing changes since the last file generation are
generated
- Configurable language and layout used by the HTML pages
ArborVita is a program written in Java that reads this file and
generates the corresponding HTML pages. Since it's written in Java, it
runs on any platform (Windows, Mac, Unix, ...) and it can be executed
right from your browser.
There are two ways to use this software: either it generates HTML files
that you upload to your site, or it generates dynamic HTML pages
directly from the GEDCOM file on your site.

Bygones v0.9d - 4693 KB
freeware for Windows 95/98/me/XP/NT and Macintosh 8.1+ computers.
Bygones is a computerized genealogical note-keeping system in computer
database form, for genealogists with laptop or desktop computers. If
you have a laptop or desktop computer available where you do research,
you can record your genealogical research notes on your computer as you
do your family history research. In addition to the Research database
for entering research notes, Bygones also has databases which may be
used for related purposes, such as: creating an "index" of the
information in your research notes, keeping track of genealogical
correspondence and correspondents, creating time lines for your
families, creating to do lists of pending research tasks, entering
information on sources that are important for your family history
research, entering information on the localities you do research in,
entering spelling variations and soundex codes for your surnames, and
for entering scanned maps, scanned family pictures, and scanned
documents.
Bygones does not replace your lineage-linked genealogy program (Legacy,
Family Origins, PAF, The Master Genealogist, Generations, Reunion,
Ancestral Quest, Brother's Keeper, Ultimate Family Tree, Family Tree
Maker, etc.); rather it is meant to be used in conjunction with your
lineage-linked genealogy program. It does replace paper-only
genealogical note keeping forms, such as paper research logs and
research extracts, correspondence logs, etc. with computer versions of
these forms (which can be printed out for your paper files).
In gratitude to the many other members of the genealogical community
who have volunteered their time, talents, and resources to further
family history research, Bygones is distributed as FREEWARE. Please
note, however, that Bygones does not include any technical support.
Please look for the answers to your questions in the manual, that can
be downloaded from the "Download" section on this web page below, or
ask your questions to fellow Bygones users via the Bygones Users Group
mailing list, also mentioned below.
To use Bygones, you fill out a research extract in a Bygones Research
database on your computer for each search you do. When you are at home,
you can print out your research extracts, as well as research logs that
Bygones will generate for you from the information in your research
extracts. You can then file your research extracts and logs, along with
your document photocopies, in your paper genealogical files.

DAYS v2.0 - 1042 KB
DAYS is a program designed to assist genealogists in finding dates of
named days and generally navigate in and between the Julian and
Gregorian calendars. The original program was in Danish and intended
for Danish/Norwegian genealogists.
The database contains close to 5,000 names of days etc. The major part
of these names are in Latin, many are in Danish, some in Norwegian, a
few in Swedish, and some in German. The duchies Slesvig (Schleswig) and
Holstein were part of the Danish Monarchy until 1864 and the German
language was not uncommon in Danish towns up through the first half of
the 19th century. In general the names are as they appear in
Danish/Norwegian sources and include some names and feasts not found
outside these countries. However, as most of the names are
international (European), the program may also be of use outside the
Scandinavian language area. .
The DAYS program has the following functions :
- Display of calendar months. Julian (year 600-2099), Gregorian (year
600-2099) and the Republican calendar (Sep. 22nd 1792 - Dec. 31st
1804). One calendar only at a time.
- Conversion of dates between Gregorian calendar and the two other
calendars.
- Information about movable feast days for all years in the Julian and
the Gregorian calendar.
- Information about the parameters of the years (Metonic Number,
Dominical Letter etc.) for Julian and Gregorian calendar.
- Look-up of close to 5000 names of days with automatic setting of the
calendar to the right date or the first day of a period.
- Display of all names registered for a given date, fixed as well as
movable names.
- Look-up of words connected with the calendar, old names for days,
months etc.
- Dates may be adjusted by x years, y months z weeks and s days in both
directions from a fixed date. Optional correction for erroneous use of
Julian calendar instead of Gregorian when computing age etc.
- The origin and basis of the calendars plus a lot more is explained in
the help-file.
- Optional use of the "Danish/Norvegian" calendar which automatically
shifts between the Julian calendar before February 19th and the
Gregorian after February 29th year 1700.
- The extensive help-file also gives a lot of information about
calendars.

Easy Genealogy Forms - 12+4+6+3+24 KB
If you have a spreadsheet program or your word processor has a Tables
feature, genealogy forms can be produced easily with these templates.
Print them as blanks to fill in with a pen, or type the info directly
into the form. They can be customized to suit special tastes, such as
changing the labels to Spanish or changing the color or style of the
text. These genealogy form templates are FREE for your personal
genealogical use. If you want to redistribute these on software
collections or use them commercially in any way, permission is
required.
1. Pedigree Charts: The pedigree chart starts with a person and charts
the parents and each successive generation of grandparents. It commonly
includes birth, death, and marriage dates. These charts list either 5
or 6 generations. The 6-generation chart requires your printer to
reduce the file to about 64%, which any Macintosh can do in the Page
Setup. Many Windows machines probably have reduction capability as
well, check your printer driver.
2. Family Group Sheet: The family group sheet records an individual,
the spouse, parents, and children. Typically this sheet will also
include occupations, cause of death, names of other spouses, and other
pertinent information about the family. These Family Group sheets have
space for 6 children on the first page. The optional second page has
space for more children and notes.

Embla Family Treasures v5.2.200 - 15331 KB
In Version 4 of Embla Family Treasures we introduced the concept a GEM,
in version 5 it becomes the main building block of the system.
GEM stands for Genealogy Extension Module and is a system unique to
Embla Family Treasures. GEMs extend the functionality of Embla Family
Treasures in some way. For example, it may add a new wall chart
plotting tool to the program, or perhaps a tool to help you make
professional looking web pages of your family history.
GEMs currently available are listed below - new GEMs are constantly in
development.
One of the great advantages of Embla Family Treasures is that it is
simple to use and free, giving you an ideal platform to start
researching your family tree without having to pay for things you may
not need. As your needs grows, so can Embla Family Treasures, and the
PowerPack is the first additon you should consider, adding a wide range
of additional functionality
The calendar GEM contains two types of report - a graphical monthly
calendar, showing anniversaries (with photos if available), and a list
showing all anniversaries in a year.
This GEM adds two new reports to Embla Family Treasures: a member sheet
with colourful icons and titles, and a four generation ancestor report
with photos. Both reports can be enhanced by the addition of frames and
a background image.

Family Access Web v3.09b - 2301 KB
My gedcom to MS Access database converter is back! Free if anyone
would like to use it. FAW is more intended for the more advanced
computer user who has a good understanding of Access and is like me a
semi-developer who is into genealogy and likes creating their own apps
for web display, report generation or whatever you would like to do
with a more universal database.
This is a little personal utility that I created to convert gedcom
files to Microsoft Access 97/2000 database format. All the utility
does is convert and create the database. There are no reports within
the database or a way to update and database built in. It's not a full
genealogy program, just a way of getting you data into a more usable
format.
I've tested it with several types of gedcom files from Family Tree
Maker and Personal Ancestry File since that is what I have, but
depending on what program you use and what version the import may not
convert properly.
FAW and it's source code are free to use as you see fit.

Family Tree Templates - 120+18+17+23+17+23+20 KB
Print these FREE family tree charts and templates to help organize your
family tree research and discoveries:
1. Family Tree Chart: A family tree chart records the ancestors from
whom you directly descend--those for whom you intend to compile a
complete and correct family unit. It shows at a glance the progress you
have made towards this goal and what remains to be done.
2. Research Calendar: The research calendar gives an account of every
family tree source you have searched and serves as a reminder of what
you have already done and where you have found pertinent information.
3. Family Tree Research Extract: Use the research extract sheets to
summarize family tree information which cannot be photocopied, for
which there is no document in your possession, or for things such as
deeds which may be time-consuming or difficult to reread quickly when
you need information from the copy you have.
4. Correspondence Record: When making a family tree it is important to
keep track of those with whom you have corresponded, the reasons for
writing, and whether or not you have already received an answer.
5. Family Group Sheet: Each piece of information concerning a family
tree member and his/her family is placed on a worksheet. Since the end
result of your research efforts will be to compile complete, correct
and connected families, the use of family group sheets from the
beginning will make the compilation much easier.
6. Source Summary: It is helpful to be able to refer quickly to
information you have found for a particular family and the sources of
that information. Keep a separate source summary of information found
for each family tree line.

Ged2Web v3.35 - 397 KB
Ged2web is program for generating a set of web pages from a GEDCOM
file.
The program produces a view for each person consisting of an
information summary including:
  • Links to parents.
  • Birth date and location.
  • Christening date and location
  • Baptism date and location
  • Occupation.
  • Address
  • Residence
  • Death date and location.
  • All standard Gedcom event types (individual and marriage).
  • Marriage details with links to spouses and children
  • Links to optional Notes
An optional Ancestor Chart spanning a user set number of generations.
This chart can be created on the main page or a separate page as
desired.
An optional Descendent List spanning a user set number of generations.
This list can be created on the main page or a separate page if
desired.
The number of individuals per file can be set by the user to allow a
balance to be set between the number of files generated and the size of
each file.
An index of individuals is produced with a user set number of
individuals per index file (again to allow a file sizes to be traded
off against number of files. Each viewable block within a file is
followed with links to the previous and next blocks as well as a set of
alphabetic links into the index.
A list of surnames is produced to link to the index of individuals.
A gendex.txt file is also produced which can be used to register your
family pages at http://www.gendex.com. See the web site for details on
how to register your web pages.
For the time being, registration of Ged2Web is free. However, since it
takes me some time to process registration requests and generate
registration numbers, I would appreciate it if you could conduct an
evaluation using the unregistered version and only request a
registration if you are going to continue to use it.

GED2WWW v0.31 - 47 KB
GED2WWW is a free GEDCOM to HTML converter; it takes a genealogy
database stored in GEDCOM format and produces a bunch of web pages from
it. I originally wrote GED2WWW for my own use, but it has since grown
to be a fairly powerful program. Some of GED2WWW's features include:
Features
- Produces very little HTML (can be less than 300 bytes/individual
depending on options selected). Much less HTML than most similar
packages.
  • Can produce a gendex.txt file suitable for indexing with Gendex
  • Supports accented/international characters (ANSEL set)
  • Produce portable, standard HTML that is browser independent. The
output of GED2WWW is tested for adherence to standards with weblint
before every release,
  • Dates can be hidden for individuals that are (or may be) alive.
  • Summary page, index pages, surname page, and data pages produced.
  • Dates can be listed with individuals on the index pages.
  • User selectable text/background/link colors
  • User selectable background images
  • Can customize common words and phrases in database and index pages.
This is particularly useful for support of non-English languages.
  • Very fast! Benchmarks:
  • Compiled version available for Windows 95/98/NT and Macintosh
  • Source code for all versions is distributed free.

GEDClean16 - 273+283 KB
If you share genealogical data with other people, you very often save
it in GEDCOM format so that other people or programs can use it. But if
you are sharing it with strangers, especially if you are putting it on
the web, you will probably make your living relatives very unhappy if
you include personal details about them.
So, you need a way to "clean" all that personal data out of your GEDCOM
file before you send it or convert it to HTML. GEDClean was the first
program of it's kind, and has been filling this need since 1996.

Gedcom Analyzer - 604 KB
GEDCOM Analyzer will do two types of analysis:
1. Compare two GEDCOM files, create its own internal index of the
records in the GEDCOM files, and then let the user browse and compare
the common individuals in the two files. See Compare Two Gedcom Files
2. Compare a single GEDCOM file, create its own internal index of the
records in the GEDCOM files, and then let the user browse and compare
the loose ends (missing parents or spouses) in the file.

GEDCOM Date Calculator Classic v1.1 - 342 KB
for MacOS Classic and Windows
The DateCalculator application is a free utility for many date
calculations and conversions. It has the following capabilities:
- You can enter dates in a wide variety of ways and convert the dates
into the GEDCOM format for dates. The DateCalculator supports the
Gregorian, Julian, Hebrew, of French Republic calendars and allows
approximate dates and date ranges.
  • Convert dates between the supported calendars.
  • You can calculate the day of the week for any precise date.
  • You can enter two dates and calculate the time span between those two
dates.
- You can enter any time span and add or subtract it from or to the
date.
- Most date utilities expect you to enter precise dates with a day, a
month, and a year before they will do conversions or calculations. All
features of the Date Calculator can be done on "fuzzy" dates. When
fuzzy dates on converted, they will convert to the new calendar with
the same precision entered in the original calendar. When time spans
are calculated with fuzzy dates, the Date Calculator will calculate the
maximum and minimum times that could possibly span the information
given in the "fuzzy dates". When times are added or subtracted to or
from fuzzy dates, the Date Calculator will calculate the range in dates
that could possibly differ from the original date by the entered time
span.
- Fuzzy time span calculations are sometimes useful to genealogists.
For example, if you know someone was born in 1824 and died in NOV 1901,
how old were they at death? Using the Date Calculator, you can
calculate that the time span between these two dates is "BET 76y, 10m,
2d AND 77y, 10m, 30d". Thus, they were 76 or 77 years old with a
greater chance of being 77.
- Adding or subtracting time spans to or from fuzzy dates can also be
useful. For example, if you know someone died in NOV 1901 at age 77,
when where they born? Using the Date Calculator, you can subtract "BET
77y AND 77y, 364d" from "NOV 1901" and find the possible birth dates as
"BET NOV 1824 AND NOV 1825" (notice that date calculations always use
the same precision as the input date). If you later find out they were
born in 1824, then the birth date is narrowed down to NOV 1824 or DEC
1824.

GedCom Estimator v1.1 - 34+37+55 KB
The GEDCOM Estimator is a program that estimates missing dates in a
genealogical database (or family tree if you like). It is not a
complete genealogy system and will not replace whichever program you
are using to keep your genealogy databases today. However, you can use
it as an extra tool to estimate missing dates.
What the GEDCOM Estimator actually does, is that it loops through the
database you supply it with and intially says that all missing dates
must have been sometime between year 0 and year 9999. Then, it
repeatedly loops through the database using a number of constraints to
give a closer estimate each time. When it has finished, it has
hopefully produced a fairly good estimate for the missing dates,
although the precision is dependent on the rest of data in the
database.
The GEDCOM Estimator uses GEDCOM files as both input and output. If you
currently are using a genealogical software package to hold your data,
you will probably find that the program you are using is able to export
and import GEDCOM files. If that's the case, you can contincue to use
that program and still use the GEDCOM Estimator to estimate missing
dates.
The GEDCOM Estimator is a Java program, which means it can run on any
operating system provided Java 1.1 support is available on that system.

GedReporter v1.1.2 - 5090 KB
A FREE Genealogy Database Report and Web Site Generator
GedReporter is a tool that allows you to generate custom reports on
information in a genealogy database. What do I mean by 'report'? In
general terms a report is a file that contains data in a human readable
format, such as a chart or a list. Most people are already familiar
with many types of genealogy reports--pedigree charts, family group
charts, ahnentafel charts, etc. Most genealogy programs already have
the ability to create these reports. Because of this, GedReporter is
primarily used as a supplement to your current genealogy tools. It
could be used for database maintenance, such as listing people who
missing source citations, or for generating complete web sites. See my
Generations Website for an example of what GedReporter can do.
The reports are generated by running scripts that manipulate data
imported from a GEDCOM file. GEDCOM is a standard file format for
sharing genealogy information between programs. All good genealogy
programs will be able to export a GEDCOM file (See your program's
documentation). The scripting language is a subset of Visual Basic and
VBScript. This was chosen because Visual Basic has such a large user
base, so many people would not have to learn a whole new language.
But, you say you're not a programmer? That's OK. GedReporter comes with
several very useful scripts already designed for you that range from
web site creation to a simple surname list. All you have to do is run
them on your own database. Also, if you wish to have a have a script
created for you, I may be willing to design it for you if the script
could be useful to others. If the script is very complicated, I may ask
for a small donation.
The best part of this program is that it's FREE! (For personal use
only). All I ask is that you register with me by sending an email. This
way I can inform you of future updates.

GedTree v2.0 - 200 KB
GedTree is a little utility I wrote to generate family tree websites.
It reads GEDCOM files (the standard genealogy file format, output by
most family tree database programs), builds a hierarchical tree from
them, and then allows you to generate the website files automatically.
Having seen many other genealogy websites, I found the quantity and
presentation of the data overwhelming, with pages of 'blocks' of
surnames, and no overall way of visualising the hierarchy of the
generations within the family, or the bloodlines within the tree. So, I
decided to develop my own website. However, it was immediately obvious
that it would have to be done programmatically, as my own family tree
has more than 2,500 individuals in it - far too many to handle 'by
hand'.
The site generated by GedTree can be viewed by most browsers - in
particular Internet Explorer 4 (and later) and Netscape 4 (and later).
The tree is generated on the fly by a small JavaScript routine, and the
trees/nodes are displayed within frames. Javascript is also used to
synchronise the tree/entries, so that navigation can be done either
directly on the tree or using the links on a particular individual's
entry. As part of the site generation, a complete index of both
surnames and individuals' names is created too.
GedTree is free - there is no restrictions on its use.

GedView v1.07 - 36 KB
A Windows program to navigate through GEDCOM files
Most genealogy software programs are capable of reading in and
navigating through GEDCOM files. But I hate using them for that,
because these programs are usually huge and take forever to fire up and
read the file.
So I wrote one that just views GEDCOM files and nothing else. It works
on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 2000, and
probably on Windows XP as well. You are welcome to the program for
free, if you would find it useful. I've copyrighted it, which means no
one else can (legally) steal it and charge money for it; but it's free
for the downloading.

GenoPro is intuitively easy to learn, simple to use, yet capable to
handle the most complex genealogy tree. GenoPro is for visualizing,

purpose of diagramming your medical history is to show what genetic
traits may have been passed from one generation to the next. This
provides a view of your own medical history that's easier to understand
than the doctor's forms. For Gedcom Users, GenoPro provides an

Gensrch v3.02 - 143 KB
Genshrch and the source for it under GNU License is package of programs
to emulate Cliff Manis's Genserv server. In fact, a portion of the
gensrch program was ported to genserv. Gensrch will take a collection
of gedcom files, and generate a database searchable by other gensrch
programs. What it searchs for, is common ancestors between the
different gedcom files. Example: Fred Jones born 1801 in jones.ged
looks to be the same as Fred P. Jones born 1802 in Mark.ged
It does soundex compares on names, understands initials, does
approximate matching on dates, etc.
Gensrch is a freebe as long as no charge is made for its products. If
you want to make a profit, so do I, call me. :) Runs on unix also.

GenXML v2.0 - 402+28 KB
GenXML is a file format for exchange of data between genealogy
programs. It is an alternative to Gedcom 5.5. The idea of GenXML is
that:
  • it shall be easy to read by most genealogical programs
  • it shall be easy to write by most genealogical programs
  • it shall be easy to manipulate by third party programs
  • all kinds of information shall fit into one and only one place
GenXML 2.0:
  • uses established standards.
  • is more strictly defined.
  • is based on an evidence/conclusion model.
  • includes structures for the research process.
  • supports combining two or more persons that may be the same
individual.
- supports basing an assertion (for example an event) on two other
assertions.
- includes an advanced place structure (which also supports the simple
Gedcom-style place structure).
- includes an advanced name structure (which also supports the simple
Gedcom-style name structure).
- uses an ISO 8601-based date-format where also the month is
represented by a number. In this way it is also possible to record
dates with a known day, but unknown month. The same format is used
whatever the calendar is.
- supports more special dates than Gedcom. For example "from about 1700
to after 1724" is possible to store in GenXML, but not in Gedcom.
- have no intention of defining all possible events and attributes.
Instead events, and attributes, are grouped into different classes of
events.
- supports the use of different languages in different parts of the
file.
  • allows sex="unknown".
  • allows the differentiation of data according to audience. (For
example data may be marked as "private" or "public".)
- allows the marking of a 'preferred' event, attribute or association
of each class. This may control the import into a simpler program

LifeLines v3.0.46.1 - 550+205 KB
LifeLines is a genealogy program. It maintains genealogical records
(persons, families, sources, events and others) in a database, and
generates reports from those records. There are no practical limits on
the number of records that can be stored in a LifeLines database, nor
on the amounts or kinds of data that can be kept in the records.
LifeLines does not contain built-in reports. Instead it provides a
programming subsystem that you use to program your own reports and
charts. The programming subsystem also lets you query your databases
and process your data in any way.
LifeLines is a non-commercial, experimental system that is use at your
own risk software.

PhpGedView v3.3.7- 5636 KB
PhpGedView is a revolutionary genealogy program which allows you to
view and edit your genealogy on your website. PhpGedView has full
editing capabilities, full privacy functions, can import from GEDCOM
files, and supports multimedia like photos and document images.
PhpGedView also simplifies the process of collaborating with others
working on your family tree. Your latest genealogy information is
always on your website and available for others to see.
Traditionally, you run a genealogy program on your home computer and
enter in all of your information. With the data on your computer, you
have a couple of problems. First, how do you share the data with your
relatives? Second, how do you synchronize your data with your relatives
when they make changes on their computers?
Traditional genealogy programs allow you to share your data on the
internet by exporting it from the program to HTML pages. However, this
creates thousands of files that are difficult to manage and even harder
to find the data in. These types of websites are also difficult to
update because anytime you make a simple change in your genealogy
program, you then have to create all of the HTML files over again. With
HTML pages you also have to worry about privacy issues.
PhpGedView solves this problem by keeping the genealogy data online.
This means that you can always access your latest genealogy data from
any computer anywhere in the world that has the Internet without ever
creating an HTML page. This also means that you can dynamically create
reports and search the data, making it easy to find the information you
are looking for. PhpGedView will also automatically hide or show
private information based on who you allow to have access to it.
Traditional genealogy programs do not allow for easy collaboration. If
you want to work with relatives on the same data, you could export your
data to a GEDCOM file and email that file to your relative. They could
then import it into their genealogy program, make their changes and
email it back to you. In the meantime you have updated other data and
perhaps received GEDCOM files from other relatives. Now you have a
nightmare trying to match and merge everyone's data.
PhpGedView solves this problem by allowing you and your relatives to
edit the data online. This means that all of your relatives are working
on the same data and there is no need to match and merge the data. This
makes it easier to collaborate on research and prevent the duplication
of work. Whenever changes are made, you have the option of reviewing
the data submitted by others and editing or undoing changes.

RJT Family Historian Converter v0.4 beta - 1076 KB
Although Family Historian uses completely valid GEDCOM, it uses custom
extensions to store photograph information and box details. What this
program does is to create a new GEDCOM file with all the pictures
renamed and relocated in a media directory below the location you
select for the exported file. It then creates a list of copy
instructions for the free image manipulation system IfranView (3.85 and
above) and calls it to create copies of all the images connected to
your GEDCOM file. This new GEDCOM file can then be loaded into many
other program including pictures, I have tested it sucessfully with
  • RootsMagic
  • Heredis
  • phpgedview
  • Family Treasures 5
It will convert all jpg, tif, bmp, png files to jpg and set the size to
that specified in the Image size parameter and optionally create a
thumbnail of each image, phpgedview uses the thumbnails as well as the
larger images. Any other files will be renamed to unique names and
copied direct to the media directory. You will need to install
IrfanView, which is freeware, prior to using this program.

SmartGenealogy v2.0 - 3707 KB
SmartGenealogy is a genealogy software that will let you record
individual persons with dates and places of birth, marriage and death
and other events in their lives, along with the sources and
repositories where you found the information from. You can also include
pictures or indicate multimedia files.
It is easy to add events to an individual record : They then
automatically display in the person's life. The supported events are :
Adoption, Baptism, Birth, Burial, Census, Confirmation, Cremation,
Death, Divorce, Emigration, Event, Graduation, Immigration, Marriage,
Naturalization, Occupation, Reference, Religion, Residence, Source,
Title.
You can create, open and destroy genealogy databases, import a Gedcom
file or a Excel file, export your databases at the Gedcom format or as
an Excel file, print, look for doubles, use a perpetual calendar or a
"To Do" notepad. You can also back-up your databases as compressed ZIP
files. You can also create automatically an Internet web-site with your
databases.
According to the selected tab, you can perform the following actions :
- Pedigree tab : Navigate inside the opened database Persons, Events,
Multimedia, Sources, Repositories tabs : Create, modify or delete
elements of the opened database
  • Seek tab : Look after persons who meet a specified criteria
  • Family tab : Add a note to a family (A family is either a couple
"Father-Mother" in case of a birth, or a couple "Husband-Wife" in case
of a marriage)
SmartGenealogy can handle very large databases with a good response
time.
The navigation inside the database is quite intuitive : Just click on a
name in the person list, children list or spouse list, and you
automatically jump to this person.
Also just by one click, the list of persons can be ordered-up according
to many criteria (name, date, place, source...)
The seek function is also very powerful and intuitive.
SmartGenealogy runs under Windows 95-98-XP-NT

The Bailey's Free Genealogy Forms - 3+5+8+121+32+73+110+58+3+3 KB
My wife [Mary (Hagstrom) Bailey] and I [Duane A. Bailey] are amateur
genealogists studying Baileys entering New England around 1650, and
Hagstroms entering in 1850. We've received lots of help from our
genealogist friends: thanks!
We have constructed the following forms we use in our own genealogy
research. Please feel free to download, view, and print these forms
using Adobe's Acrobat Reader. (If you don't have it, )
We have the following:
- A family record sheet. This sheet is what we use to keep track of
family data. It features references for each piece of information.
- A pedigree chart. This is a cross from a version found in Reunion and
a chart from the LDS. It's main feature is that it's simple.
- A pedigree fan chart. This is a request from our genealogy friends.
Holds 8 generations (255 people)! It's also simple.
- Several different forms of timeline. (two, three and six lines
sheets) These forms allow you to chart out family history events during
an arbitrary time period.
Two lines on a sheet:
- Sheets for keeping track of cemeteries. These sheets are useful for
people who wish to keep track of information in graveyards or sexton's
records.
- A first page. This allows one to map a cemetery and has room for
cemetery contact information, as well as room for two gravestone
entries.
- And following pages. Has a smaller map (perhaps a portion of the
map on the first page), and room for six gravestones enscriptions.
- A research log sheet. This sheet is fairly standard. It keeps track
of research you're performing on an individual in a particular
locality. (We've done a lot of work with westward-moving pioneers. This
research is problematic, but these forms are the best approach we can
think of.)
- A correspondence log sheet. This sheet looks similar to the research
log, but keeps track of letters you've sent to others for information.
The document number refers to letters and responses you've sent out.
We've not used this much, but it's invaluable for keeping track of,
say, foreign correspondence.
We hope you find these sheets useful. If you have comments or suggested
changes please send us a message.

The Genealogical Companion v4.0 - 1985 KB
The Genealogical Companion (TGC) is a Freeware "add-on" Windows program
for those who use the genealogy program Family Origins by FormalSoft,
Inc. TGC's purpose is to provide addition reports to Family Origins
standard set of reports. To use TGC you must have your genealogical
data stored in Family Origins.
With the recent releases of Family Origins versions, it became a very
robust and flexible tool for recording and managing genealogical data.
Even with these advancements, however, I find that the variety of its
standard set of reports, and flexibility of the custom reporting
function still falls short in some areas. Based upon Family Origins
history of improvements, it is my opinion and hope this utility will be
replaced with equivalent reports and functionality in future releases
of Family Origins. Until then, I plan on enhancing this utility with
new reports and functionality that will aid both you and me in
researching our family's genealogy and history.
Requirements:
  • Family Origins v7, v8, v9 or v10
  • Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000
  • Microsoft Access 2000

Transcript v2.1.1.28 - 1204 KB
Transcript is a program I made to simplify the transcription of old
genealogical and historical documents but it can be used to transcribe
all digital documents which cannot be transcribed using OCR.
You could for example use it to transcribe the text from an old
newspaper, your diary, handwritten notes or any other documents you
have.
I found it very inconvenient that I always needed to switch between my
editor and image viewer to move the digital photograph of my document
to the part I needed to transcribe.
From within the editor you can move the image window and even skip to a
previous or the next image.
Besides this, there are many other options to manipulate text and
image. It also remembers the position where you were working the last
time and will go back there when starting up the next time.
The editor uses the standard "rich text" format which is supported by
most editors so exchanging documents will be easy.
Transcript is free for private use only.

UncleGED v7.00.750 - 2903 KB
UncleGED is...
  • GEDCOM Reader
  • GEDCOM to HTML Converter
  • GEDCOM Cataloging Tool
It will create HTML pages from your GEDCOM file for posting on-line.
Unfortunately we could not review this program because it could not
handle the GEDCOM file we have. The program stopped processing the file
after it loaded just under 10,000 names (there are about 12,000 names
in our GEDCOM file) so we could not see how it worked.
If you have a GEDCOM file with less than 8,000 names then UncleGED
could be an excellent program to try.
System Requirements
  • Pentium® 90MHz or higher microprocessor.
  • VGA 640x480 or higher-resolution screen supported by Microsoft
Windows.
  • 24MB RAM for Windows 95, 32MB for Windows NT.
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or later, or Microsoft Windows 95 or later.
  • Disk space requirements: Approx. 2MB

Why? The LDS Church keeps incredible family histories. Some of that data
may apply to you, even if you're not LDS. I'm not, never have been, but a
considerable chunk of my family history is stored there, because one of my
mother's uncles converted. Members of the LDS are required to keep
genealogy records.

"Use LDS data" in PAF has nothing to do with the church's extensive family
history information, it has to do with whether the program displays a
section with fields for LDS members to record "ordinances": dates and temples
for LDS baptisms, endowments, and sealing to parents.

Unless you're an LDS member, uncheck it.
