Gaining access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

I need to gain access to a couple of HKEY sections on my
hard drive but I cant seem to find out how I can reach
them. The reason I need to do this is to weed out a few
addware and virus that are there.
 
HKEY refers to hives of the system Registry. You access the Registry from Start, Run and entering REGEDIT Click OK.

However, if this isn't obvious from the instructions that you've read on removing these spyware/virus files, then the Registry may not be somewhere you want to be editing.

Make sure you create a System Restore point before you begin your editing task.
