fx 5700 vs fx 5700 ve

hi,

my story short:
i need _reliable_ information of differences between GeForce Fx 5700 and
5700VE (both 128bit). After some time spent googling i found nothing
but: http://tinyurl.com/loz69 (i don't find it reliable as i can't
understand a word of this language and don't know the source) and
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/ (but it's about 64bit model).

my story long:
for nearly two years i've had fx 5700 128MB/128bit but a few days ago it
got broken. the service changed it for 5700VE 256MB/128bit. just in home
i realized that they had given me VE model. it was just after playing
some games (i thought there will be rise of 3d performance -- it was
256MB after all, but my games run slower). I started googling for some
information about VE version, but found nothing but some guys at several
forums telling VE is much slower, and the links above. Here is output of
nvclock:

-- General info --
Card: nVidia GeforceFX 5700VE
Architecture: NV36 A1
PCI id: 0x344
GPU clock: 425.250 MHz
Bustype: AGP

-- Memory info --
Amount: 256 MB
Type: 128 bit DDR
Clock: 501.428 MHz

-- AGP info --
Status: Enabled
Rate: 8X
AGP rates: 4X 8X
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Enabled

-- Sensor info --
Sensor: National Semiconductor LM99
Board temperature: 29C
GPU temperature: 34C

-- VideoBios information --
Version: 04.36.20.30
Signon message: NV36 P191 SKU0004 VGA BIOS
Performance level 0: gpu 300MHz/memory 550MHz/1.30V
Performance level 1: gpu 425MHz/memory 550MHz/1.35V
Performance level 2: gpu 425MHz/memory 550MHz/1.44V
VID mask: 1
Voltage level 0: 1.30V, VID: 0
Voltage level 1: 1.35V, VID: 1

so (theoretically) the parameters are same as producer claims for 5700,
but fall of performance is noticeable.

in service i told i don't want VE model but they won't admit my
complaint, claiming that in case they can't repair hardware they give
same or better. And in my case guy in service told me i got better card
i've had before (cause it's 256MB).

i need your help in finding differences between those two cards, so i
can assert my rights in shop. in general, i need a proof that VE is
worse despite it has 256MB.

or maybe it just seems to me that the new card is slower and guy form
service is right?

TIA

This page mentions several tools, and perhaps Rivatuner can
help display some info about your card. Rivatuner is mentioned
near the bottom of the page.

Other than that, all I can suggest, is to get the part numbers off
the RAM chips on the video card, and determine what type they
are. The speed rating of the memory chips, the total width of
the memory array, the memory chip type, might help determine whether
your "VE" is a 64 bit wide or a 128 bit wide card, and so on.

What specific make and model FX5700 did you have?
In general there was the 5700LE, 5700 (regular) and 5700U
(Ultra). IIRC, the regular had a 425/550 clock. The LE
might have only had a 64 bit memory bus, or possibly some
had 128 and some 64 bit- at certain points in these cards'
product lives the manufacturers start differentiating the
designs some to make use of different memory or lower
price-points and thus lower clocks to reduce power needs
(and card onboard power circuity size and cost needed for
the lower speed product).

but a few days ago it
got broken. the service changed it for 5700VE 256MB/128bit. just in home

Did you leave your present driver installed, or it is using
a different driver? If different, try the other driver or a
newer/newest one.

You'd really need some benchmarks to compare if you don't
know what the core and clockspeed on your old card was.

Occasionally on these types of aging-GPU value cards the
manufacturers will buy up whatever memory is available.
They may use memory actually spec'd better than the memory
clock would suggest, or memory produced for higher speed and
binned down. There's a fair chance the card has a pretty
good headroom for memory overclock, but that the markings on
the chips may not be as accurate an indicator of the card's
specs as it would have been earlier in the FX5700 product
cycle on higher tiered FX5700 based cards.

The VE version of the FX 5700 is clocked slower. It is a cheaper version.

that was my first guess, but i realized that VE has the same clocks as
regular 5700 (gpu: 425; mem: 500).

i don't think it would run on linux machine and i don't have windows
installed at the moment.

as mentioned on listing above it's 128bit.

What specific make and model FX5700 did you have?

it was regular 5700 winfast (leadtek). it was 128bit.
Did you leave your present driver installed, or it is using
a different driver? If different, try the other driver or a
newer/newest one.

yes it's the same driver (on linux there is only one for all nvidia
cards). and it's the newest version.
You'd really need some benchmarks to compare if you don't
know what the core and clockspeed on your old card was.

the problem is i would need my old card to do that. now i regret i've
never run nvclock on my old card. :/
