Funny ipconfig error

M

I am having trouble getting one of my PC's to get a DHCP
address of my network. When I try and ipconfig /release
and then /renew I get the following error:

"The following error occured when renewing adapter Local
Area Connection: Unexpected Network Fialure or
Insufficient Access". I am using the administrator
account for the machine so I know I do have the access to
perform the ipconfig commands.

Also when I change the IP address from dynamic to static I
can get onto the Internet, ping other local machines, and
print to my network printer.

I ahve also checked all cable connections and tested each
cable, and all are in working order.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in Advance

I do not have a solution, but I can say that I have been able to run
diagnostic tools which seem to "lock up" the particular network interface to
the point that ipconfig fails in a similar manner -- even when I am running
as administrator. Only way was to run the diagnostic tool to "unlock/stop
logging" the connection (or reboot the machine such that the tool is not
running).

Just something to think about. I'd start with security SW.

Only one off the top of my head...

In a 2000+ AD domain, DHCP servers must be authorized before they'll lease
addresses. I don't know if that's your problem or not.
