how do i get multiple functions to compute one answer, i.e. when i want any
number less than 4000 to compute function A and numbers greater than 4000 to
compute function B ext. ext.
 
One way:

=IF(A1<4000,<your function A here>, IF(A1>4000, <your function B
here>, "Exactly 4000"))
