I have seen many posts that outline what r NOT
functions of a cloned XP(ie backup OS partition).I
always wanted to respond but by the time I got around
to it, those posts were too old. Thus this post was
born.
I installed XPhome, Sp1, ZA, AV, Calender, Email,
IE, ...& other what I call 'critical apps'+printer &
cloned that to another partition calling it XPmin .My
original XP I call XPmax cause only it has games, photo
editors, webcam, gamepad, racing wheel,scanner..all of
which r not critical apps (they dont have to run at
least 1/24 hrs or cost me money). XPmin is a small(5GB
) subset of XPmax(12GB/6GB=games) frozen in time 2 yrs
ago except for installing SP2, 1 update of AV + ZA, &
installing some new hardware drivers(ie USB2 PCI card).
XPmin has very limited purposes :
1- experiments, (ie took 5 tries to install my 1st
wheel controller)
2-testing & comparing software,(ie tested 4 FTP apps)
3- when XPmax wont boot, get TS (email + NGs+forums+
websites) & run immediately critical apps like my
calender & paying bills. Buys time to solve boot
problems.
4-Duplicate on XPmin what caused problems on
XPmax=>probably not a problem with my OS if there is a
problem too on XPmin. This can be used to negate TS
suggestion to reinstall XP!
5-Comparisons can help decide if malware is on XPmax or
boot time is reasonable.
6-Test if W Updates, especially those with no
uninstall, cause problems.
Most of these r necessary but not sufficient tests but
I've never had something work on XPmin & not in XPmax.
Doing 1 + 2 on XPmin keeps damage to XPmax's Registry
to a minimum. Problems on XPmin r easier to solve.
Should I really screwup, I delete XPmin's partition &
replace with its latest image leaving XPmax uneffected.
XPmin could be XPmax cloned but 4+5 would be N/A plus
XPmin would be much bigger on my HD..
This is 1st time I have 2 OSs on 1 HD & I really like
it but then I have very weird coefficients in my
objective function
.
Comments/suggestions/corrections appreciated.

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.
