Full screen and enlarge size

I have this new problem and I'm not sure how to explain it so I'll do my best
to try. It started today. Here goes:

When I try to watch movies (avi format usually) in Windows Media Player or
dvd player software, more often than not the image will not go full screen
even if I choose full screen mode. Here are some examples:

1) I play them on WMP and when I choose the option "Fit video to player on
resize" the image still stays in a shrunken state, (I'm guessing in its
original dimensions, like 320x160 or whatever) and left justified in the
window. This occurs weather I play them in full screen or not. Sometimes
the movie starts off and fits to the window and suddenly reverts back to its
original size.

2) Same thing when I use any other movie player like players for dvds or avi
files, too.

The other thing is that I am trying to play a game that is full screen based
but it also now displays within a window rather than full screen.

For some reason it appears that Windows now thinks either my max resolution
is some rediculously low value or full screen no longer works.

------------

I tried reinstalling WMP when I thought it was that, including all updates.
I tried reinstalling video drivers and monitor drivers, but no change either.

Anyone WHAT THE **** is going on with my video control???

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Change the refresh rate of the monitor and then try it.

Hi Jud,
The refresh rate is already at it's lowest, 60hz. Like I said, this
problem started occurring all of a sudden. The only thing I installed (Which
I now uninstalled) is remote desktop. But I can't see the corrolation
between that and screen functions. The screen I have is a 17" LCD display so
I can't see where it would have any bearing. Besides, the screen won't
affect what windows decides regarding display formats (full screen or window
format or reduced format in movie display)

I'm open to suggestions from anyone.

good news!

Found out what was causing the problem. For some reason net meeting was
loading up in background and causeing screen settings to screw up.

All fixed! Yay!
