Full install from Upgrade CD?

I want to do a clean install using an XP upgrade CD. The
machine originally came with 98 preloaded by Compaq, but I
want to wipe it all out. Will this work, or do I need to
install the full XP product to do this?
 
Yes, no problem with that.

You proceed as you would with a full installation by booting from the CD.
The upgrade CD will prompt you to insert the CD of a qualifying product, at
which piont you should insert your OEM Windows 98 CD.
